Seawatch Concrete Restoration

Velocity provided engineering consulting services for a concrete restoration project at Seawatch Condominium in Naples.  Seawatch is an 8-story building that was constructed in approximately 1981.  The project consisted of repairing concrete balconies on the back side of the building facing the Gulf of Mexico.

The repairs were necessary due to deteriorated reinforcing steel and post-tensioned cables within the concrete.  There were some original design plans available, but due to the age of the building the plans lacked a lot of detail that would typically be included in a modern set.  Furthermore, at least two previous repair projects had been conducted and some of those previous repairs were already failing.  Velocity worked closely with the contractor to find solutions to the challenges that were encountered during the repairs, which ranged from unexpected conditions to outdated construction techniques.

The project was completed successfully, ahead of schedule, and under budget, even after adding in repairs to some of the front side balconies.
