Wedgewood Window Replacement

Velocity provided engineering consulting services for a window replacement project at Wedgewood at Bonita Bay Condominiums. Wedgewood consists of 6, five-story condominium buildings that were originally constructed between 1987 and 1992. The project consisted of replacing all of the windows along the back side of the buildings.

This project had a number of unique challenges: the construction materials varied from building to building with some of the walls being wood framed, some metal framed, and some concrete block; some of the wood framed walls were rotting and had to be reconstructed; and some of the rough window openings were too large for the windows that were in them. All of these issues required Velocity to provide engineering direction to the contractor while work was underway on the project. Furthermore, areas of delaminated stucco were identified on some of the buildings that had to be repaired as part of the project.

Despite these challenges, the project was completed successfully. The replacement of these windows improved both the hurricane resistance and water resistance of the buildings as well as their appearance.
